Palatine, Illinois Speed Traps
E/B Algonquin Road just past Harper College entrance
Officer will sit in the field on the south side of the road literally in the ditch. This ditch is easily 2-3 car widths wide and about 5-6 feet deep — a fox hole for a squad car, in other words. Once you see him/her, it’s over.
US-14 Northwest Highway
Northwest Highway is a four lane road that, in this section, is fully straight and is also set with a 40 limit. A decade ago, it was 45, and to this day, you still want to do 50+ on it. Palatine cops sometimes stake out this stretch, especially from the Route 53 exit east to Wilke Road. I have even seen them pull over their targets once they pass into neighboring Arlington Heights (east of Wilke Road). I wonder if one should somehow question the legality of this. Also, once you pass into Arlington Heights, the limit goes down to 35, but the road remains a four lane straightaway. I’ve seen an Arlington Heights cop clocking people from the parking lot of the old VFW post in this section.
Euclid Avenue
Euclid Avenue west of Plum Grove Road is a four lane divided highway with a 45 mph limit and not much else surrounding it (although it is starting to fill in to some degree). Traffic often pushes on at more than 10 over the limit. Beware the cop who sometimes sits on a side street west of Quentin Road; they appear to be aiming at anxious Harper College students.
Rt 53 at the Dundee ramp
the cop waits under the Dundee Road ramp and pulls anyone over that is going more then 12-15 over the unreasonably low speed limit.
Dundee west of Rt 12
Police will sit in the parking lot just east of Hicks road and get people accellerating down the hill (westbound) from the stoplight (limit is 35). Seems to be monitored once a week or more. Occasionally police will sit across from the forest preserve entrance west of Hicks at the bottom of the hill. Relatively rarely monitored, they seem to mostly be a block east (above)
