80th Avenue

About 7 a.m. I’ve seen a police officer sitting on 163rd St. on the west side of 80th Ave clocking people going south on 80th Ave. I saw him 3 days in a row last week. Speed limit is 45 but it’s a fairly wide open so people tend to go a bit faster.

At the 167th St. Exit on Southbound I-57, there is a little rest area – or an "accident investigation site" as they call it. Occasionally I’ll see a State Trooper hanging around there! He’s pretty out in the open but if you’re not paying much attention, you could miss him.

The whole village

Tinley Park is a somewhat affluent suburb but they get their share of revenue from traffic citations. The main points to watch for Tinley’s finest are 159th, Harlem, 167th, 175th, and 183rd. 159th is littered with strip malls, restaurants, banks, and churches. These guys are liable to sit in any of them and clock you. 167th west of Harlem is also notorious because the speed limit drastically drops from 40 to 25 since it turns residential. 183rd is also nasty as there are a lot of places for them to hide (e.g. the Burger King on 183rd and Harlem). Finally, the cops are on constant rolling patrol on Harlem as well as Oak Park Avenue and Ridgeland.
