Any school zone in New Orleans

New Orleans, LouisianaMay 18, 20141 Comments

In April, 2014 I was traveling on Canal Boulevard at the speed limit (I think 35 mph) and encountered a flashing school zone sign with the posted speed limit of 20 mph. I immediately began braking to reduce my speed to 20 mph and was going 27 mph (according to the photographic record with the complaint) and was accused of driving over the speed limit. In addition to the school zone sign, the photograph clearly shows my brake lights lighted, to confirm that I was braking. There was another car in the photograph, the brake lights of which were also lighted, and a third car, farther along in the school zone, the brake lights of which were not lighted.

City of Gretna

New Orleans, LouisianaSep 15, 20122 Comments

The city has purchased mobile speed cameras that are now mounted on top of SUVs so they look like the SUVs that accompany over-sized vehicles. They park them (unmanned) in various business parking lots along the streets or on the shoulder of other streets. They are parked just after the speed limit changes. This is usually on streets/highways where there is a major change (35 to 20 or 45 to 35) and most of the time people don’t have enough time to slow down before the camera is triggered. I see people getting caught constantly by the cameras. In fact, it has gotten so bad that I have friends who don’t live in Gretna but always shopped and dined in the city who now refuse to spend any money within the city limits as a form of protest.

Jackson and Chestnut

New Orleans, LouisianaFeb 15, 20120 Comments

There is a crazy low speed limit right here for a divided road. They set up red light cameras around the city and then brought in the speed cameras under the radar in the typical New Orleans fashion. Even after getting my speedometer calibrated because of my first couple of tickets I got a ticket going the exact speed on my speedometer, but the camera said I was 4 miles over.

Something is corrupt in the NOLA city government to let this happen. Seriously.

Foot of the Westbank bound HOV near Gretna

New Orleans, LouisianaSep 15, 20111 Comments

While traveling down the ramp to the start of the Westbank Expressway from the HOV notice the entance ramp to the HOV on the Left.(which is closed at 2pm when the HOV changes direction) a Causeway Police car is parked there shielded by the shade of the expressway overhead, and by a wall (which inhibits visiblity) while driving down the ramp) The car is black in color, and not showing any lights, it is a RADAR car. My radar detector goes wild while in this area, that is how I found the trap.

Coliseum and Henry Clay

This is a speed camera at this intersection that said I was going exactly 6 mph one time and 7 the next on this corner. One was a day ticket, other was a night ticket. BEWARE.
