M-14 Expressway near Huron River

Ann Arbor, MichiganApr 15, 20081 Comments

City Police officer watches with binoculars as approching traffic comes down hill as the speed limit drops from 70 to 55 as other police cars wait to nab speeders. I witnessed 1 officer outside his car as 4 others had cars stopped. Also watch I-94 East and West bound in Ann Arbor city limits and will ticket for 5 over.

Newport Road near Wines School/church

Ann Arbor, MichiganMar 12, 20081 Comments

it’s on a road thats speed limit is 25. however, despite this, most go for 35-60. Cops hang out in various places between the church and the school, so slow down below 35 once you near the church. their are several places in this area that cops hang out at, some are visible and others aren’t

Huron River Drive near Warrington Drive

Ann Arbor, MichiganFeb 06, 20081 Comments

Cops in car or van sit behind bushes at one of three semi-circular cutoffs off north side shoulder. 7 to 8AM and 4 to 5PM are favorite times to run this trap. Watch out, cops run front and back radar antennas. This stretch of Huron River Dr. has very few access points and according to new state law (which Ann Arbor will not obey), a more lawful speed would probably be 45 MPH.

Complain to the Michigan State Police about Ann Arbor’s low speed limits throughout the city, kept that way for one reason — $$$$. If ticketed, take it to court with a good lawyer and cite the city’s refusal to post realistic speed limits accoring to new state law.

Fuller Road near b/w Mitchell field and the Uof M hospital

Ann Arbor, MichiganNov 27, 20070 Comments

Cops like to sit in the driveway of the pool, or even in the median. the speed limit is 35 but it is rare to see anyone going under 40. so if 40 is the low point at already 5 over, to see ranges up to 50 is not uncommon and that is 15 over. they don’t give breaks either. they’ll write you for the full deal.

Depot Street near Gandy Dancer restaurant

Ann Arbor, MichiganOct 29, 20070 Comments

Depot Street westbound goes from a 35mph limit, on a 2 lane, narrow road, to a 25mph limit just as the road crests a steep hill. The road widens, and the pavement changes to bricks. The 25mph sign is at the very top of the hill, hidden by brush, and partly knocked over. The steep hill down towars the Gandy Dancer restaurant causes cars to speed up, and the cops wait in a small parking area to the left (south) of the road.

I can see this stretch from my living room, and it is always busy with cops giving out tickets. Sometimes there will be more than 1 cop at a time, somtimes as many as three.

It is also right in front of the law office of a city councilman, so the cops get to display their vigilance to council.
