Kansas City, Missouri Speed Traps
US Highway 210 near Chouteau Avenue
Heading west on Hwy 210, once past the Chouteau Trfway exit, a curve in the highway provides an excellent hidden point for a police car with radar to sit and monitor a drop in speed limit from 55 mph to 45 mph.
Southwest Trafficway Street near 36th Street
There are speed traps along Southwest Trafficway between 31st and 36th nearly every week, often times more than once in a week. Southbound traffic gets hit in front of FOX4 News just north of the 31st street intersection and again at 36th street. Northbound traffic gets hit at 34th street as the police sit behind a small church.
The speed limit for this 6 lane road (3 lanes in each direction)is only 35mph, which is lower than the normal flow of traffic. Also, the southbound traffic exits interstate 35 before 31st street where the speed limit drops from 55mph to 45mph for a couple blocks before it then drops again to 35mph.
Police frequently have vehicles pulled over in this area as the 20mph drop in speed limit is an unexpected change for drivers.
Interstate 35 near North edge of downtown
I-35 goes down to 45 MPH along north edge of downtown. The sign is posted showing the reduced speed from 44 to 55 but it is VERY hard to see. I seldom go through the area when some one or two people are not stopped by city police. It seems to be worse when traffic is not quite so heavy, especially on weekends and holidays.
State Highway 40 near Interstate 70
Kansas City Police Dept. officer using radar gun from car, or motorcycle parked on South side of 40 aiming at vehicles traveling Eastbound.
Interstate 29 near Interstate 635
I-29 Between I-635 & I-35, Speed drops from 65 MPH to 55 MPH at NW 64th St. southbound and the merge from I-35 Northbound. 635 & 29 merge & cross with an interchange with US 169 Hwy. KCPD travel in pairs with radar & a motorcycle officer. Traffic rarely drops below 65 in here, so no one notices the KCPD until pulled over.
