US Highway 71 near Interstate Between 435 & 635

Kansas City, MissouriAug 04, 20050 Comments

The 10 mile stretch of US71 from I-435 to I-635 is newly built with three stop lights. 55 MPH before and after stop light section. 45 MPH through three stop lights. Road built for 80+, especially in light traffic.

KCMO motorcycle cops live to take drivers down. On any given drive at least one is working, sometimes many. ALL HAVE LIDAR. Radar detectors inform you that you’ve been nailed. Tread lightly.

Barry Road near North Oak Trafic Way

Kansas City, MissouriJul 13, 20050 Comments

Motorcycle cop likes to park in tehwashout area just as Abrry road eastbound towards maplewoods parkway turns to 2 lane. If you drive east from Barry Road and North Oak, It’s 35 and as you crest the hill on the 4 lane heading eastbound and go down around the turn by kaw valley engineering. They love to lidar you coming over the hill. The cop wrote my ticket right beside the sign that said 40. He gave mea ticket for doing 47 in a 35. I pointed to the sign at which point he started getting angry. He said why ar eyou arguing with me? I said well teh sign 3 feet in front of me says 40 my ticket should read 47 ina 40. I said it as only for revenue, he then smiled and said well if you know that then why are you arguing with me? My new lifes mission is to do everything I can to make Barry Road and 152 speed trap free.

State Highway 152 near State Highway 29

Kansas City, MissouriJul 13, 20050 Comments

The entire highway 152 between I-29 and Liberty is nothing but an expensive toll road funded with nothing but speeding ticket revenue! Every single day I drive this road to work and I see at least 2 speed traps at a minimum and on some days 4-5 in a 5 mile stretch! If you drive this road don’t go over 60. It is NEVER safe! In the summer they line up motorcylces on the North Brighton exit and set up a ladar on a tripod in the median. In the winter and after dark they put dark painted patrol cars right on the side of the road in dangerous locations and stalk speeders scaring the CRAP out of drivers that only catch the reflectors on their cars at the last second. The road is a controlled access 4 lane highway designed for 70 but posted 60 mph. Favorite lurking areas are just coming up the hill eastbound after the 169 ramp, over the crest of the hill just before maple woods parkway, and the eastbound side just after Indiana. Folks these tickets are $180 a pop and they make you get a lawyer to get a reduction and they are even MORE if you have points. A PURE revenue SCAM. We need a massive protest one day!

Interstate 70 near Benton Boulevard

Kansas City, MissouriJun 12, 20050 Comments

This is the most heavily enforced area of I-70 that I know of. This is the whole area of the "Benton Curve" and there are always KCPD pulling people over on both sides of the highway. If you are unfamiliar with the Benton Curve, it is that area on the highway where there are the yellow blinking lights (they blink only if you are driving faster than the recommended speed) before the highway curves North/South and then curves again to go East/West again. Cops commonly hide behind the corners, under all bridges, and on top of some bridges so they can go down the onramp and get you. Sometimes there is a cop at night on the South/Eastbound side waiting in the grass near the second (left) major curve. This one is hard to see at night since their cars are black. There are both motorcycle cops and cop cars. They all use Lidar so watch out. I have also seen a helecopter from time to time. There are hills and smaller curves between the main two curves that they like to hide behind. If you are caught by a biker cop, you are screwed. But on the other hand, a 4.6 liter engine isn’t exactly motivated to move a 3800-pound Crown Vic up to highway pursuit speeds either. First they have to wait until traffic clears to pull out. Then the have to get up to speed. If you see one after you are caught, just stay at the same speed you were driving or slow down to the speed limit. If you get a chance when you are out of his line of sight (like over a hill), floor it! There are a lot of exit ramps–just take one and wind around the city streets and be discreet. Take a little detour and you’re home free! My exit ramp of choice was the Linwood Boulevard ramp while travelling South/East. The cop saw me speeding under one of the ramps and pulled out to come get me. I doubt he even knew I left the highway.
