Manchester, Missouri Speed Traps

Officers sit in the southbound lanes of 141 between Big Bend to the south and Brittany Parkway to the north. This is the only stretch of 141 where the speed limit drops to 45 from 50mph. There are no signs indicating the change of speed limit. I travel this route every day and I have never not seen someone pulled over, no matter what time of day or night. The state of Missouri decided that 50mph was a safe speed for the entire lenght of 141 yet only the city of Manchester dropped the limit to 45mph and post officers here 24/7. If this is not the definition of a speed trap, I don’t know what is !

Almost the entire length of 141 has a 50mph speed limit but thru one small section(thru the City of Manchester) the speed drops to 45mph. The Manchester police usually hide along either side of 141 roughly between Big Bend to the south and Brittany Parkway to the north. I travel 141 thru Manchester 3-4 times a week and I can’t remember the last time I didn’t see at least one person pulled over.

The State of Missouri determined that 50mph was a safe and reasonable speed limit on 141 from I-55 in far south Jefferson County all the way north to I-64 in the City of Town&Country yet the City of Manchester decides to drop the speed limit to 45mph in that small stretch. Also, there is no signage present warning motorist of the reduced speed ahead. If this isn’t the definition of a speed trap, I don’t know what is.

45 MPH speed limit regularly enforced, within the Manchester city limits, on the 4 to 6 lane divided highway/street that is 141. State traffic engineers wish to raise the speed limit on this major inter-city commuting arterial, but the Manchester city council wishes to keep speeds low, per local resident requests.

Watch the speed, particularly in early morning, dusk or evening, and particularly South of Manchester blvd, within the city, to just past Big Bend.

The speed limit is 25 mph on Dietrich Rd. and there is usually a cop at Reflection Cove, by the entrance to the apartments. When coming from Manchester the road is straight and flat, but later on it gets hilly and windy. Sometimes they are even at the top of the hill. Cops are usually there during the summer, and especially nights.

Officer sits in parking lot of Barretts School. Speed limit is 30mph and vehicles proceeding down the steep hill toward Dougherty Ferry must ride the brakes or downshift to remain below that speed. Officer also checks speed of traffic turning from Dougherty Ferry onto Carman and monitors compliance with the traffic signals at that intersection.
