Piscataway, New Jersey Speed Traps
Lakeview Avenue near Washington Avenue
25 mph zone which has no reason for being so low. It is a main road. Roads around it which are similar and more residential are at least 35 mph. No one does 25 on this road. Even the officer admitted he doesn’t go 25 on it. It is unfair and uncalled for.
New Brunswick Avenue
I live in one of the apartments in this street for 5 years and there are too many places where they hide since this is a residential/commercial area 30 MPH zone. 1) Coming from Stelton Rd, They hide in the warehouse parking space before the railroad OR on the otherside after the railroad in a parking lot Arko Co., 2) Traffic Light on Carlton Ave Intersection, they are parked on the side at the light where the control box is so matter where you are coming from your dead (there is a bend in the road so you dont see them). 3) Across the Pepsi Warehouse is couple of Metal/Iron works warehouse with Lots of trucks and places to hide 4) After you get passed the Pepsi warehouse and Pass the next railroad track beside the Iron works warehouse is a bend (S bend in the road) there is a clearing just after the first bend, and they are sitting there waiting for you.
My apt is just along the road and eveynight (when the light are visible) I see 4 of 5 pullovers on this stretch of road.
One more on Stelton Road, near the intersection of Washington Ave, 25 MPH zone (residential), people always drive 40, they park on the side of the road with the other cars of thos who live there (got pulled over here 45 on 25).
Metlars Lane near State Route 18
The Rutgers University Police Department likes to set up officers in the large dirt patches on both sides of the road on Metlars lane (where they are currently doing construction about 50 to 100 feet from the road). These patches are placed where they are hidden from view regardless of which direction you are going. At night or near the end of the month, officers parked here will follow and sometimes even tailgate cars until they have reached a parking lot or have left the RUPD’s field of coverage. Make every percaution not to exceed the speed limit here, even if an officer comes very close to your rear bumper.
Metlars Lane near Construction Area
They’re taking advantage of little areas created by the Route 18 construction (Spring 2004) and trapping at all hours. Seen them at both 1pm and 1am.
Carlton Avenue between Rutgers Road and Washington Avenue
After passing the entrance to Pleasantview Gardens on the left, WATCH OUT. Between that intersection and the next light, Washington Avenue, the police park their cars two blocks away on a side street, then walk over and hide behind trees and utility poles with radar guns. If you’re going more than say 30, you won’t see them until it’s too late. The limit is 25MPH and it’s enforced strictly, and there’s no getting out of a ticket here. Apparently some residents in the neighborhood complained about speeding cars on that stretch, and so the police always enforce it more when they get a complaint.
