Staten Island Expressway/West Shore/Korean War

Staten Island, New YorkJul 19, 20100 Comments

All three highways on Staten Island (Staten Island Expressway,I-278; West Shore Expressway/Martin Luther King/440; Korean War Vets Pkway/Richmond Pkway) are now, essentially, giant speed traps from end to end. I travel them frequently every day, and on one run the length of the SIE and West Shore Expressway I almost never pass fewer than four traps and/or actual car stops. I have actually, on some days, passed a total of eight — in one run the length of the Island! They start right at the V-Z Bridge and gop to the Goethals, right at the Outbridge, right at the Bayonne Br., and go the whole length from there. Whether is the city looking for “revenue” or quotas imposed on cops, SI Highway cops are now being hyper-aggressive and hyper-sneaky — not just semi-marked cars, not just unmarked cars, but now I see them doing car stops using completely unmarked pick-up trucks! Out-of-towners beware — in NY there are no such things as “warnings” like you have some other places — EVERY stop must end in an actual ticket.

Hylan Blvd. & Sharrots, by Mt. Loretto

Usually Officer Maldonado sitting across (waterside), in tan car, now also has a "buddy" to back up in a large black car. Speed limit is 40 on a long wide stretch of Blvd., but 50 is not difficult to accidentally drive, & if you do 45 while the guy in front just drove past at 55, YOU will be the one he catches. Off. M just doing his job, but the speed limit should be upped for a bit there – there are no schools southbound 3h8qmafter passing IS7.

Red light camera on the South Gannon Side (SI Expressway service road). Do not try to make the yellow light, it changes quick.

Within South Beach Psychiatric Hospital

Speed, Stop Signs, Cell Phones Equipment & Parking, you name it. A certain Sergeant on those grounds is killing the beach like community atmosphere we used to enjoy. We will attempt to make eveyone aware of this, creep.

Hylan Blvd. and Seguine Ave. toward Page Ave.

Young cop waits for people to go 1 mile over speed limit, cell phone, seat belt. anything. He waits for people leaving the hospital to do something. And I have seen him pull people over right in front of the hospital.
