Charlotte, North Carolina Speed Traps
South Tryon Street near Tyvola Road
Traveling south on South Tryon from Tyvola to Arrowood is heavily monitored. Speed limit is 45. Be careful going downhill after the intersection at Tyvola and on the long stretch between Beam and Arrowwood. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Academy is located right off of South Tryon on Shopton Rd, so there are always plenty of officers around.
Interstate 85 S near Little Rock Road
Often while traveling from work during twilight and after dark, I pass State Troopers sitting in the inside breakdown lane against the barrier clocking motorists with rear mounted radar. You can’t see them until you are withing 50 feet of them due to thier sitting in the curved sections of the interstate.
Central Avenue near Morningside Drive
Sometimes there are officers in police cars sitting in the parking lot of either the Mcdonald’s or the Italian restaurant on Central between the Plaza and Morningside Drive. I have only seen an occasional car pulled over but just watch out!
Interstate 85 near Exit Number 38
I was pulled in the work zone on I-85 right before you merge onto I-77 at exit 38…be careful…because it is a work zone they highly enforce the speed limit. (this is what the DA told me in traffic court, heh)
johnston Road near Interstate 485
between 51 and ballantyne commons parkways, johnston road changes speed limits 3 times in about 1 1/2 miles. they catch you when it goes from 45 to 35 and then back to 45. Eight emplyoees where i work have been ticketed in one month. some of us for 40 in the 35.
