Hanging Rock has been a notorious speed trap for dozens of years and it’s officers will pretty much do anything to pull in traffic related revenue. I wrecked my car during a heavy snow fall roughly 2 miles outside the Hanging Rock limits near the chemical plant and a Hanging Rock patrol vehicle stopped and rather than making sure I was alright while I was outside inspecting the damage he immediately asked for license, registration, and insurance and then proceed to write me up for speeding, reckless stop, and failure to control. (Despite having not witnessed the accident.) Fortunately while he was putting the finishing touches on the literary masterpiece of fiction and OSHP officer pulled in, had words with him which caused him to get a constipated look on his face and he then proceeded to pull the paperwork from his clipboard and wad it up before he left. I’m guessing the Statie pretty much sent the HRPD officer back to his yard with a swat on that dog’s rump. Fortunately I merely got a warning and a bill in the mail for $83 in damage to a guard rail.

This bump on the map is a trap for sure. Was pulled over going 84 (Yeah right). I had cruise control set on 55 as I had my two kids and wife in the car and am well aware of their history. Ol’ sparky had his clip on tie hanging from a collar with the top button undone. Said he didn’t need to verify my insurance since any one driving a $60K Navigator would most certainly have full coverage. By the way sparky, it is not a Navigator, but an Aviator, and I am glad the price of my car determines my speed.

The speed trap is not in Ironton, but West of Ironton at Hanging Rock. This is and has been for years a speed trap. I really don’t understand why the Hanging Rock police can come on US 52 because there are no homes along the highway.

I got caught right by the bakery red brick oven I think. I remember the cop sitting plum in the back behind the bakery in the weeds he come right off the hill & pulled me over on his mountain bike. He said my speed was checked by another officer in the air & thats why he stopped me I got cited for my speed, no eye protection, no helmet, no trail permit. I had one hefty ticket. I watch what I do when I vacation there since.

On weekends saturday mainly there is one guy who will pull you over for anything. He pulled me over for speeding & got me with laser. I do remember a chopper in the area though because I seen it when he took me back to the patrol car & showed me my speed he hurried up & wrote me a ticket & I listened to the chopper radio him & say they had another one. He gave me the ticket & off he went wearing his hat.
