Less then 2 months ago I received a citation from the Tremont City Police for Speeding. I was told I was traveling 42mph in a 25mph zone.

With this said, since I was so displeased about this I figured I would announce this Village speed trap for others who my travel through it. But after reading some of the other “very negative” comments posted on this site, I feel it’s important to add something which made my encounter with the Tremont City Police some what pleasant.

Much to my surprise speeding was not the only offense I had committed. It was brought to my attention by the officer that my license plate tags had expired over 3 months ago.

The officer could have very well cited me for this offense on top of the citation he was ready to give me for speeding, but he did NOT. Not only was the officer very professional in appearance but also in the way he treated me.

The officer took the time to explain how he had tracked me speeding and explained to me the method of which he used both visually and by radar, but he also explained that he was not giving me a citation for the expired license plate tags because he did not feel the need to stack a ton of charges on me and how that was not his prerogative.

With this being said, I was still not happy to receive a ticket for speeding even after I felt I was not speeding, I was highly impressed on how this officer treated me with respect and professionalism he represented for his department.

Just one more thing I would like to add for the rest of the viewers and future posters to this site. If you are going to bash the police and practically call them stupid you should A. learn how to spell or B. learn to use spell check.

Speed limit signs are placed and set to cause intentional confusion. You can get pulled over due to the inaccuracies in the cop’s (if you can call him that, he’s a useless metermaid set to harrass because he got picked on in high school) radar. Your speedometer may say 25, but his radar is off so he wins. I live right outside down. I don’t spend a dollar anywhere near the place and the town has never got a dollar from me. The town is a dump and always will be because it is avoided like the plague. They should abolish the city charter and eliminate the police. How do we get the state to do this?

All within the village limits.

I drive through this village almost every day. The village cops are always out there picking the pockets of anyone going 2+ mph over the 25 mph limit. They hide behind the bushes at the cemetery entrance, down driveways, behind buildings and anywhere else they can. I see them stopping people all the time. They are preditors.
There are more traps there than speed. Another thing they will do is turn their only traffic light on "blink" then sit up the street and watch for someone not to bring their wheels to a FULL stop when approaching from the blinking red lights. You have to roll out partially into the intersection to see around the buildings on the corner. When you do, you better STOP before proceding.
Entering the village driving south the speed limit is 35 mph from the vilage limits to a slight curve in the street, about 2 blocks, then it drops to 25 mph. But if you are travelling north on the same street, the speed limit is 25 mph clear out to the vilage limits. (Two different speed limits on the same streach of the road.)
The ~350 residents of this village are protected by no less than 4 police departments, Tremont City Police, German Township Police, Clark County Sheriff and Ohio State Patrol. The Tremont City Police and German Township Police are WAY over-aggressive. $$$$$$$$$$$

Tremont is notorious. The speed limit drops from 55 to 25 The officers hide in alleys and behind buildings so you can’t see them until it is too late. Don’t try going 27 mph unless you enjoy the flashing lights.
