Kitchener, Ontario Speed Traps
They’ll sit in the parking lot of one of the industrial places on Wilson with their laser guns. Watch both sides of the street too as sometimes they’re parked on the Uniroyal side.
Speed trap is in two locations: a single OPP cruiser sits in a grassy area on the NW side of the bridge, invisible until you drive past. The other location is in the median just east of the centre abutment (3+ cars). Eastbound traffic can’t see past the centre bridge support while the westbound traffic breaks over a steep hill 1/4 mile distant!
After you cross the Parkway overpass when proceeding north east on Ottawa St N you enter a right hand sweeping turn as you pass through a small forested consevation area. The speed limit is 50 KPH but the traffic and the condition of the road tend to make vehicles travel at a higher rate. Just past the wooded area,on the right, the officers set up the trap and pick off violators like fish in a barrel. speeders as they come out of the blind turn.
Speed limit of 50 Km/h but on a street that you would expect a minimum of 60 km/h. The trap is unusually, at the top of the hill, and can consist of one or more officers and vehicles. The most devious is a white van that has a plumbers rack on top. It easily passes for a vehicle pulled up to the corner to make a turn onto Courtland.
Travellers going south on Highway 8 toward Cambridge are the usual target. Laser on a tripod in the shadow of the Highway 401 overpass coceals the trap until it is too late to brake. Usually multiple officers with cruisers down the road to write the tickets.
