Thornhill, Ontario Speed Traps
Yonge Street near Royal Orchard Street
A police cruiser parks in the entrance to the golf course on young street after the downhill section and before the uphill section on young. Royal Orchard is the nearest main intersection which comes right after the uphill. The police do this on weekend nights mostly to catch speeders coming down the hill.
Steeles Avenue near Leslie Avenue
North side of Steeles Ave going westbound from Leslie Ave towards Bayview as you are going under the bridge. Road is 3 lanes wide speed limit is 60 kmh. Police are there daily
Kings College Road near Greene Lane
A Police Officer is parked in front of a home on Kings College Road. It varies what direction the radar gun is facing and will stop cars in either direction.
John Street near Pomona Valley Park
The police park in the road leading to the park/tennis club at the bottom of the hill on John Street. They try to catch people speeding while coming down the hill. The limit is posted at 40km/h which is unrealistic as the hill is steep and before you know it your going 55km/h.
Elgin Street
A police car will sit perpendicular to the traffic in a driveway or path to catch speeders. The limit is 40km/h which I feel is very reasonable. The street has 1 lane in each direction and it is a very narrow laneway often with cars parked along the street which causes problems during heavy periods.
