Thornhill, Ontario Speed Traps
New Westminster Drive near Holy Famiy Catholic School
YRP parks on the driveway of Holy Family where the buses come in and nab people going north on New Westminster when they come up from the hill just past the railroad bridge.
They will also trap traffic going opposite direction at the top of the hill going south towards Steeles.
State Highway 407 eastbound near Exit Number Bathurst St.
This trap is used by York regional police to nab drivers heading eastbound on the 407. The radar will usually be set up at the entrance ramp to the 407 West at a point overlooking both east and west lanes of the highway. Bathurst St. is a bridge over that section of the 407. So, one officer will point the laser gun at eastbound traffic while underneath the bridge a bunch of chasers will be waiting for you.
Center Street near Atkinson and Center south off east Side street
I noticed this trap when they caught me in it in JULY of 2004. The trap was located off of Atkison. I was going North on Atkison where there is a hill which will cause u to travel faster anyways. The 3 young cops probably just started training were situated on a side street where there is a street light Just before Center street. The catch was I was filed for a 40 zone because it was claimed to be a school zone. BUT in July we all know school is out for summer so the actual speed limit is back to 50km/h. They took advantage of the fact teh school forgot to turn off the flashing amber light that indicates its a school zone. Anyways I will be fighting this unfair ticket. Just thought I’d warn everyone since its not the first time they have used this area for a speed trap.
John Street near Bayview Avenue
Typically placed near the Fire Station between Don Mills and Bayview. They tend to stake it out all in one month, then leave it for a few months, then swarm it again.
Steels Ave, between Bayview and Yonge
between bayview and yonge, going westbound, it’s 3 lanes each way, right after a overhead brige and across from the esso station. A unmarked police car actaully parked on the grass and the cop was standing w. a tripod on the sidewalk. Once you clear the bridge you are too late, but you CANNOT see him @ all because of the bridge. It was York Police in a blue unmarked crown vic.
