Hwy 47, (Main St>), North of Hwy 6 junction, past 1st stoplight.

Bend, OregonSep 01, 20020 Comments

Operated operated in spring and summer until Labor Day. Reduction from 55 to 45 mph speed limit is posted at Hwy 6 junction on 47N into town. At the first stoplight into town is a busy intersection, into a small stripmall. The reduction to 25mph is posted 50′ North of the intersection, conveniently located with school zone speed restrictions. The school is located at this intersection to the next intersection, Trellis St. For tourists, and others not familiar with the area, it is very easy to miss the 25 mph posting, when your attention is divided between turning traffic at the intersection, the overhead traffic light. If the light is green, as you approach the intersection, it is easy to integrate this sign with the array of school zone warning signs, including the flashing yellow lights, that are turned off in the summer. If you are into the center lane, the speed limit sign can be obscured by RV, and larger vehicles turning right into the shopping area. The fine is typically $109. Court appearances are in North Bend, set by the citing officer, usually on a date 1 to 2 months from issue of citation, time of court appearance is usually shown as 7:00pm. The small Banks force, works two cars at this trap, and frequently stops and cites two to three cars at the same time.

The State HP or County Patrol can either be posted off the side of the highway partly hidden in the trees or behind a rise on the hill. The posted speed is 55 MPH, while the normal flow is more like 65. Don’t drive a red car.
