Division Street near 125th Street

Portland, OregonJun 01, 20050 Comments

Police had set up a photo radar unit at 125th and Division on Friday, May 13th. I was clocked doing 41 in a 30 MPH zone at approximately 10:30 am. Division Street is 40 MPH from 82nd to past 225th, with the exception of a 12 block area from 116th to 128th. When I saw the flashing light go off in my face I was literally looking at the 40 MPH speed limit sign at 128th. It is very easy to miss seeing the 30 MPH sign if you are alongside a truck and the light at 119th is red. Be careful, this one cost me $144.00 and three years of bad luck.

Hawthorne Bridge Street

Portland, OregonMay 10, 20050 Comments

Motorcycle officer parked in the city bus pullout just as you cross the river, eastbound. I’m not exactly sure what the speed limit is (30?) for the grated part of the bridge, but most people pick up speed as they come of the grates.
Difficult to see the officer if you are in the left lane because of the steel beams.

State Highway 26 near Sylvan Road

Portland, OregonMay 09, 20050 Comments

Anyone heading West out of Portland on Highway 26 should slow down as soon as they pass the exit for Washington County Zoo, if not sooner.

The Portland Police, Oregon State Troopers, Beaverton Police, and Washington County Sheriff are all HIGHLY enforcing the 50 MPH speed limit from before the exit for the Zoo all the way down past the Junction with Highway 217 due to construction crews and road work, which allows them all to write "Double" tickets, (fines that are double normal fines in "non-construction" zones).

These speed traps have been seen in operations at all hours on all days. I drive this route to and from work daily, and always see at least 2 vehicles per day pulled over and ticketed.

At least they should back off once the construction is finished… this whole thing has only been gonig on for 2+ years.

Frankly I’m surprised this isn’t already posted. Good Luck! Good Speed!

Interstate 5 near Terwilliger

Portland, OregonMay 09, 20050 Comments

The Portland Police have been using this trap for years. They have even gotten "parking" for their cruisers and motorcycles built into the freeway along the stretch of I-5 known as the "Terwilliger Turns" or "Terwilliger Curves".

The posted speed limit is 50 MPH, although this stretch of interstate can be navigated safely at moderately higher speeds. The police like to sit on either end of the curves and wait for people to speed into them, then they pull them over.

Sometimes a motorcycle officer will sit at the bottom of the Terwilliger on-ramp to catch people speeding OUT of the curves while going northbound.
