Salem, Oregon Speed Traps
Liberty Road near Madrona Avenue
Local Salem police park their bikes in the parking lot of the convenient store to the South of Salem Heights Elementary or they sit in the apartment complex to the north. This is a school zone in the morning and they are usually there in force 2-3 officers at a time. And no I have never been caught I just want Salem PD to move into my neighborhood for speed enforcement.
Silverton Road near Lancaster Avenue
Marion County Sheriff on north side of Silverton Rd between Lancaster and 45th St. Only have seen crown vics here. Seen just prior to noon, mid week.
I5 – Commercial Street Bypass near Interstate I5
Commercial Street Bypass, after going past exit, and headed back to Freeway, officers will hide under the shadow of the curve with a laser gun. Hadn’t seen them there till the other day, then got a ticket.
Interstate 5 near North of Salem
Just north of Salem on I5 before the speed limit increases to 65 State Police hide in the medium strip with radar on a regular bases. Same thing south bound just after the speed limit is reduced to 55 coming into town.
US Highway 22 near Exit Number Wallace Road
Section of US 22 from Wallace Road exit westward to College Drive — this section lowered from 55 MPH to 50, and is enforced constantly. This is a classic Oregon tactic of lowering a speed limit unnecessarily to encourage ticket production, and Salem police are particularly talented at writing them (but not much else)! Average cost for going 65 in this zone is around $100.
