Columbia, South Carolina Speed Traps
I-20 and Bush River Rd interchange
Highway Patrol hides its pavement colored cars in the shadow under overpass and uses laser speed measurement to target citizens while creating an exceedingly dangerous situation instead of actually improving safety.
Piney Grove Road about 1 mile west of I-26.
State troopers sit in the median at the bottom of the hill running radar in the evenings and at night. They park silver or dark colored cars in the median blending in with the shadows so they can hide. Irresponsible parking at best but really shocking safety hazard created by the very people who claim to want to prevent accidents.
I20 West @ Bush River Road.
State troopers position observers on the overpass clocking drivers and directing multiple cars to pull them over. Saturation enforcment is a common pratice. Very aggressive.
Fountain Lake Way
The Speed limit is 30mph. The police will ticket you if you are traveling faster than 30. "Zero Tolerance"
Christie Rd Christie Rd (Meadowfield Elem and Hammond)
A traffic cop is now patrolling Christie, Galway Ln, and Byron Rd. These roads are in a highly traveled neighborhood where most of the roads are 30 or even 35mph. Moreover, these roads are all a few blocks away from both Meadowfield Elementary and Hammond. HOWEVER, for some reason they are still marked as School Zones with 25mph speed limits. The traffic cop will pull you over if you are going 35, even for just a moment. Ruthless.
