Columbia, South Carolina Speed Traps
Polo Road
There are two places on Polo Road: at the ball fields just after the speed limit drops, a patrol car will sit waiting for some dummy who decides they dont need to slow down; and, then there is up closer to Two Notch Road just above the hill beyond Running Fox, again waiting to catch someone whose car is going fast because they are coming down a hill…
Next to the Tennis Courts
The cop pulls up into the trees on a small dirt road, and pulls people for going as little as three over. Slow down to at least 25 when going through this area. He has also been known to be in the pool parking lot as well.
Piney Grove Road near Interstate 26
On Piney Grove Rd going east between St. Andrews Rd and I26 state troopers park on the side streets and watch for people speeding up as they leave the residential area and approach the interstate.
Rosewood Drive near school zone
Don’t speed through the school zones on Rosewood Dr. (located between S. Bonham and S. Walker; between S. Harden and S. Pickens). The school speed limit is 25 mph and the police enforce it heavily.
Elmwood Avenue near Wayne Street
Coming into Columbia on Elmwood Ave from I-126. Just coming over the hill beginning around 6:15-6:30am an officer is often parked between Wayne St. and Gadsden St. on the right by the Lizard’s Thicket. By the time you crest the hill, they will have you before you see them.
