East and westbound traffic is often disrupted by 20 or more police cars and motorcycles running radar. They are often lined up along the shoulder of the road. As you proceed west past Hemphill and east past Wichita, you will see fewer, but beware. Just when you think that you are clear of the speed trap, there will be three or four more vehicles just waiting for you to increase your speed.

Be careful when approaching the eastbound entrance ramp to I-20 from Hemphill. There is usually an officer with a hand-held laser assisted by multiple chase cars and motorcycles.

Officers on bridge use radar guns clocking southbound motorists. Motorcycle & squad cars line up on southbound entrance ramp and issue tickets. Have seen as many as five or six motorists being ticketed at same time.

The Ed K Collett city park between Hulen and Horne streets is a popular spot for mid-day speed trap activity. The park is near a speed zone change (40 becomes 35) and perpetual construction zone (your water funds at work) and it is not uncommon to see a police car waiting behind a tree in the park. During lunch time there are many vehicles from the nearby business and rail yard not obeying the traffic laws but if you obey the speed you won’t get unfairly targeted.

Police stand on the crosswalk over the freeway from Arlington Heights high school, and the cars or motorcycles will be lined up on the entrance ramp. It is impossible to see them or differentiate between police and school kids until it is too late.
