Kemah, Texas Speed Traps

Kemah cops are bad. They like to harass people, they will usually pull you over for doing just a little over the speed limit. Watch the speed limit, and FOLLOW IT. They will write you up for everything they can.

Very heavy traffic enforcement along a 3-4 mile stretch of Hwy 146 that passes through Kemah. As many as 4 or 5 cruisers have been seen any time of the day partolling or hidden in the 35 – 40 mile and hour Hwy.

Speed limits different for North & South bound traffic,40mph N.B. / 45mph S.B. catching unsuspecting tourist new to the area, and stiffling drive time traffic. South of city limits is also heavily patrolled by State Troopers. Speed limit is 50MPH about 15MPH too slow for driving conditions and 85th percentile (average vehicle speed in area) and the cops know this fact also. Study is underway by Texas Highway Department to adjust these speed limits.
