Northbound I35,mile marker 381

Milford, TexasMar 28, 20110 Comments

Late night driving. I was driving under 75 mph and stopped by the Milford police patrol. Got ticketed for doing above 75 mph. I asked to see the radar reading but he refused to let me see it, citing that was “his policy not to show it.” Citation rate for Milford is $133 + $4/mile over the limit. The posted limit was 65. Make sure you drive below 65 MPH in this area. Driving below 75 mph will not keep you under their radar. Be warned, even when you admit to doing 66 mph, it will cost you $137.

According to The Observer, Milford police issued 430,431, and 332 traffic tickets in Sep,Oct, and Nov 2010, respectively. Milford population is only 700.

Northbound I-35E about 10 minutes after 35E/35W split

Milford, TexasOct 11, 20100 Comments

Northbound Interstate I-35 splits into I-35E for Dallas and I-35W to Forth Worth right after Hill/Hillsboro. The next 15 miles of I-35E travelling northeast before reaching Italy TX is pretty much straightline with some up and downhills rather than left or right bends. Beware of Milford located some 10 miles north of the I-35E / I-35W split. A concrete barrier isolates northbound and southbound interstate lanes, with sparse median openings. The Milford FM 566 to Derr Chapel Rd is a 4 miles one way trip, allowing access to northbound travellers, and after turn at Chapel Rd will give access to southbound I-35E travellers that just passed Italy TX, without need to resort to openings in the concrete barrier forming an 8 mile loop. Speed limit 70 with 65 nite time.

City police of Milford patrol an area of interstate 35 a mile away from the city. They provide absolutely no protection to the city. City limits signs are not posted. The speed limit on the south bound lane is 55 mph, 15 mph below normal speed limits. It is in a semi-permanent construction zone that is protected by concrete barriers. This is one of the most blatant speed traps I have ever seen.

Approx. 10M N. of Hillsboro, Tx.(I-35E) or 25M S. of
Waxahatchie, Tx. 1M E. of I-35 (on old US 77) sits Milford, Tx., a town of < 700. They have extended their city limits out to & along I-35 for 1 1/2M. There is no part of this town anywhere near the interstate(look at it on Map Quest or Yahoo Maps). There is, however, the last of some work that has been going on forever so any ticket will be doubled. It is obvious that the only reason for extending the city limits is to enable them to write speeding tickets. The night of the 20th of July, 2004, I watched the police there. The two city officers on duty in separate squad cars sat on the main street of Milford (US 77) talking about nothing for over an hour, then headed out to I-35. I even pulled up & joked with them about it. They think it is hilarious.

Milford police sit, as usual, in the median at the bottom of most hills in the abnormally hilly region of Central Texas. At night, they sit on the side of the road, catching people not paying any attention.
