Texas City, Texas Speed Traps
Most every morning during the week, between 5 am and 9 am the Texas City PD runs a speed trap between these 2 roads north and southbound on Interstate 45.
In the 4000 block of SH 146. Police sit under a 65mph sign catching motorist in a 55mph zone, but in the opposite direction the speed limit is 60mph. Motorist entering on the SH197 ramp have have no speed signs warning of the reduced speed on the North bound side.
The speed limit on this street was recently changed from 45 MPH to 30 MPH. There is a single speed limit sign at the intersection of Century Blvd, east bound. Patrol officers sit in several drive-ways and a local church parking lot shrouded in bushes. There is no excuse accepted and the ticket is started before they get out of their vehicle. Municipal court is difficult to deal with, and you are encouraged at every turn, to pay the fine.
As you go south on 146 the speed drops from 65 to 50 as you get on the bridge that bypasses 197 and Palmer in Texas City. Cops sit just on the other side of the bridge that crosses Palmer. They are there almost every afternoon catching people on their way home.
There are several entrances to BP from Texas Avenue to the loop (near Valero entrance). The police sit in an entrance to the BP refinery that is not used. This is the one closest to the loop. They are there during shift change @ 4-6 AM.
