Bolton Road (Route 2) onto North Main street   Waterbury, Vermont

As you come from the Bolton Ski area (or if you just happen to be south bound on Bolton road,) you come into Waterbury Vermont. Bolton road has a 40mph speed limit and as you approach the town naturally the area becomes more populated. 100 feet (yes, that's less than 2 seconds) before you enter town there's a sign that says 25 mph ahead. At the town border there's a 25 mph sign and a (fat) local cop with a DVD survelliance camera built into his cruiser. It's important to note, because the sceneary doesn't really indicate you've crossed any kind of border. They (Vermont) have this 50% of posted speed rule. If you exceed that then suddenly your ticket crosees the civil violation threshold (as opposed to a simple traffic ticket.) So the math is 25 + 50% of 25 is 37.5mph. Guess what? If you miss that sign or don't react in the 1.7 seconds, you're just been punked by the Waterbury PD to the tune of a buck 50!

Stowe Street near Interstate 89 Underpass   Waterbury, Vermont

The speed trap is located between the Interstate underpass and the Elementary School on Stowe Street. They hide on a side road that is masked by shrubbery from one direction and a slight curvature in the the road from the other. This is in an area locally known as Tannery Flat. This may occur any day at any time but the weekend is very popular with the police.

US Highway 2 near US Highway 2   Waterbury, Vermont

There are two speed traps in Waterbury. They are located at each end of town where the Village Speed limit of 25 MPH is posted. Enforcement is especially overzealous on weekends but may happen any time during the week. It is best to slow to 25 MPH when the Reduced Speed Ahead sign is seen.

Stowe Street near State Route 100   Waterbury, Vermont

Descending Stowe St from Rte 100 toward Waterbury Village, the trap is at the base of a blind curve just after you pass beneath the Interstate and just before a school zone. Oddly enough, the cops are never there when kids are going to and from school (otherwise half the moms would be cited for speeding).

Speeding Tickets

You deserve every speeding ticket you get. You can complain all you want after the fact, but it's true.
Find out why.

It's one of the "great" American past times: complaining about unfair speeding tickets. There are two types of people when it comes to complaining about this particular type of traffic ticket. Which group are you in?
