Huntsville, Alabama Speed Traps
US Highway 231 near Hobbs Road
Officers run radar on weekend mornings between Hobbs Road and the Tennessee River bridge. I routinely see them pull over several cars each morning.
Whitesburg Drive near Lily Flagg Drive
Huntsville City Police backed into the parking lot of St. Marks Episcopal Church looking out onto Whitesburg Drive. This is almost at the intersection of Whitesburg and Lily Flagg. They are parked towards the back of the parking lot. Church buildings block the view for traffic coming from both north and south so drivers can’t see them until they are right in front of them. Have seen city police with radar several times.
Bob Wallace Avenue near Jordan Lane
Police will wait in the entrance of the Botanical Gardens on Bob Wallace between Jordan and I-565 where they are invisible to traffic coming from both directions. Speed limits are not entirely unreasonable but a little on the low side. I see them there 2-3 times per week.
Sparkman Drive near Executive Drive
Police will wait in the entrance to one of the churches between Executive Drive and Adventist Drive waiting for speeders. They are difficult to see from both directions if you aren’t paying attention for them. I live near here and watched them pull over about 6 people one afternoon.
US Highway 72 near Chapman Mountain
HPD will sit a random car (nothing that looks even like an unmarked car, sometimes I’ve seem a junked up truck) in the meridian halfway down the hill clocking traffic … meanwhile there are about 10 marked cars pulling over every other car around the corner at the bottom of the hill.
