Vancouver, British Columbia Speed Traps
Northbound on Oak Street right after West 33rd Avenue
Cops with lasers hide behind the tall bushes off Oak Street between West 33rd and West 32nd Avenue right before the BC Children’s Hospital. Since there’s a downhill stretch between West 37th and West 33rd, those guys love to catch the unsuspecting drivers that enjoy a little speed down that stretch. I’ve seen them there twice at around 7pm and once in the afternoon, but usually on a clear day so they don’t get themselves wet.
First ave , East and West before Home Depot
The cops hide behind a few trees and in the bushes eastbound, and westbound they are in the parking lot of a closed building catching people coming down the hill off of the overpass.
16th Ave (westbound) between Trimble + Tolmie
Located just past the crest of the hill as you come out of the slight dip in the block or two where Q.E. school is located. Usually bike cops with the radar guns out. Worst time is September around start of the UBC fall session — when there are a lot of new unsuspecting student motorists heading to class.
McGill and Nanaimo
As you are driving west on McGill they hide in the trees at the curve onto Nanaimo.Usually a cop on a bike
Boundary Road near S.E. Marine Drive
Boundary Road has a 10% grade at the South end of the Drive. Cops hide and operate laser near bus stop at the bottom of the hill near S.E. Marine Drive. To maintain a speed of 50 kmh (30 mph) continuous braking and/or lower gearing is required. Engine braking is prohibited. This is an unfair trap. Shame on the Vancouver cops for this trap.
