Pasadena, California Speed Traps
Altadena Drive near New York Drive
Motorcycles hide behind bushes and in driveways on Altadena Drive. My wife has had 2 tix over the years.
Arroyo Parkway near Colorado Boulevard
Just South of Colorado Motorcycle Cop hides in driveway of storage facility gunning at those heading south to the 110 freeway. Seems especially interested in youngsters in tuned imports. Seems to work afternoons and weekend evenings no doubt looking for DUI’s coming from the Colorado bars
Interstate 210 near Exit Number Sierra Madre/Altatdena
There’s a sporadically occurring speedtrap going East on the 210 from around 12 a.m. – 2 a.m. (give or take a couple hours, I can’t be entirely sure), located right before the Altadena/Sierra Madre exit. From what I’ve seen, it’s most common on weekend nights (Fri/Sat).
On at least 6 different occasions in the past four or five months (which is a lot, considering I don’t come home so late that often), I’ve seen a car pulled over along the offramp by a patrol car. It’s pretty obvious that someone was sitting in wait and watching for someone to pass by excessively fast.
The one time that -I- was actually pulled over in that situation, I was going about 85, although the highway was practically deserted. The officer -did- let me go with a warning, with the reasoning that because of my young age a ticket of that caliber would overhaul my insurance. I can’t say if he/she/they often let people go with warnings, but I do know that in the late nighttime hours, primarily during weekends, there are patrol officer(s) watching specifically for speeders at that exit.
Lida Street near Wellington Avenue
Motor cops hide in the driveway directly across the street from Arroyo View Dr. on the south side. They are so sneaky picking on poor college student from the Arts Center for Design. There is a severe downhill slope traveling east on Lida St. And the speed limit is only 25 MPH. What do these cops expect, they know that we are running late for class and they still cut NO SLACK! I got caught last June (during my finals week) and I tried to explain my story to the cop, but he would have none of it. I guess they just want to make their quota and try to pay for that Rose Parade. BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! THOSE COPS HIDE ANYWHERE!
Del Mar Boulevard near Kinneloa Avenue
Motor Officers will sit in packs and nail any offender that even thinks of going over the speed limit. They sit on the north side of the street just west of Kinneloa. They always sit in the shade (because you know how motor officers are) so you can’t see them, Sneaky! I was cited for 52 in a 35 zone. I took it to court and told the judge I was only going 37 in a 35 and the judge said, "Well is 37 bigger than 35? I guess your guilty!" I fought the law and the law won! Becareful in Pasadena, you know they have to pay for the parade somehow.
