Torrance, California Speed Traps
Torrance Boulevard near Amapola Avenue
East of Crenshaw Blvd heading toward old town Torrance. A motorcycle officer sits about 15 feet back on the NW corner of Amapola and Torrance Blvd (obstructed by a business on the corner). This is just east of the train tracks. Posted limit is 35, traffic regularly flows at 45. This is a deceptive length of Torrance Blvd. (between Crenshaw and Cabrillo) because the lights seem to be synchronized so that the main flow of traffic (on Torrance Blvd.) may pass straight through–results in lots of speeding. I often see people speed by me to be caught only a few moments later.
Palos Verdes Boulevard near Prospect Avenue
Motorcycle enforcement usually in pairs. Look for police when travelling northbound on P V Blvd just after the light at Prospect Avenue. There is a blind spot as you approach the curve. They hide in driveways and will catch you before you have a chance to slow down.
190th Street near Interstate 405
A CHP Motorcycle cop hangs out by the freeway entrance. Be especially careful about turning right onto the freeway from the right turn lane on 190th Westbound unless you have a green light. It is now illegal there to turn against a red light and this cop has been nailing people regularly. He also nabs a lot of speeders, especially around 190th and Van Ness Ave.
Normandie Avenue near Francisco Street
Bike cop waits on Francisco t-intersection of Normandie. He’s there at least once a month, usually in the evening rush.
Hawthorne Boulevard near Sepulveda Boulevard
Motor Officers’ hide in parking lot waiting for traffic heading south on Hawthorne from Sepulveda Blvd to Lomita Blvd. 7:30 am to 9am Traffic is usually heavy and all in a business area. Traffic moves about 50mph plus. Posted speed is 40.
