Weed, California Speed Traps

Was turning off of S. Weed Blvd and climbing up the hill on Hwy 97N and was pulled over for speeding. The speed limit is 50mph and the cop pulled me over for 66mph. I didn’t believe him so I nicely asked him to show me the readout on his radar gun. He kindly walked me back to his car (and there were 2 other cop cars behind his) and showed me the readout at 66mph. He must have radar’ed someone else because my truck wouldn’t even do the speed limit up that hill, let alone 65mph – my dad and I both tried in that truck. The speed limit was more of a goal for that vehicle, but that explination would not hold up in court.

Highway Patrol will be waiting for you anywhere through the city of Weed CA off of I-5, so back off the gas and actually go less than the speed limit because they won’t show you the speed set on the radar gun if you ask nicely. The officer will say something to the effect that it will compromise his and your safety to have you out of the car on a busy interstate to look at his radar gun. My speedometer said 75mph and my buddies GPS said we were cruising at 75mph and the officer said I was going 88mph and he would cut me a brake and make the ticket for 80mph. Some brake that was!
