Monaco Northbound at 1st Ave.

Photo Radar van is regularly parked and located 1/2 block north of 1st Ave immediately after the speed limit is lowered from 35 mph to 30 mph, catching most drivers unaware, and before they have time to slow down. This is a completely inappropriate slowing of the speed limit on this parkway- the excuse being that now you’re passing by the back yards of houses on Monaco. I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 40 years- and I have NEVER seen anyone in their back yard along this stretch of road. Another glorious revenue enhancement sight for Denver law makers.

Bromwell Elementary School sits to the east of Josephine- hence, this completely absurd and ridiculous 20 mph school zone double fine area. Why is at absurd? There hasn’t been a kid crossing Josephine Street in a hundred years. The parents line up to drop off and pick up their kids exclusively from this school. Denver revenue collectors just love this invention of school zone fines.

Santa Fe northbound at I-25

This photo radar speed trap is still active. It has now been moved farther north in the work zone, and the dark blue or black photo van is being parked to the left of the Santa Fe Drive through lanes beyond the ramp onto I-25. Slow to 25 mph before you pass the 25 mph sign northbound and crawl through the entire work zone as the location of the photo van could vary. I have seen this trap during the week after evening rush hour, and all day long on weekends. Be especially careful here at night.

It is a “work zone” with a temporary 30MPH in a normally 40MPH- with double fines.

The issue is that the lowered speed limit signs are in violation of the national MUTCD standard that requires the speed limit signs- even temporary ones- be posted at 7 feet above ground level. The speed signs here are no more than 14″ above the ground, rendering this trap completely illegal. Denver and Federal municipal codes require that when the traffic regulating devices (signs) are not properly placed, you CAN NOT be given a ticket.

Anyone who gets or who has gotten a ticket at this location can easily and successfully have this ticket dismissed if given when these signs are incorrectly placed. See MUTCD for sign height requirements, or search for my web page about this.

Stapleton complained about speeding so the city lowered the speed limit based on "design speed" or sight distance or something. And there’s a safety zone.
