Jefferson, Georgia Speed Traps

I-85 TRAVELERS: Just this past week, the city of Jefferson installed new signs on the interstate. They read, "Jefferson City Limit" and "Speed Checked By Detection Devices". It sounds like this speedtrap town is getting jealous of Braselton’s ability to write tickets on the interstate, and they are now letting Jefferson Police join in on the "sport". The signs are about 1 mile from either side of Exit 137 (Jefferson/Gainesville).

All of Jett Roberts Road is a speed trap. Jefferson PD hide in subdivision entrances (no lights at night) and sit in front of the dam, clocking traffic both north and southbound. Speed limit is 45, but 50 would be much fairer. 10 over is the most slack you’ll get from this Metro Atlanta speedtrap.

After passing over I-85, you will enter tbe Jefferson City Limits. This section of 129 is called the Damon J. Gause Bypass. The speed limit is 55 mph, and the Jefferson Police love to catch people speeding here. They are not normally very strict, but on this new four-lane road, they do not let you off easy.

The new four-lane US 129 around Jefferson is worthy of a 65-70MPH posting, but ironically it’s only posted 55MPH.. To add to the irony most of the new highway is in the Jefferson City Limits.. There have been times where I have seen high frequencies of cop cars, bith Jackson Co. and Jefferson city. on this 55mph stretch of road… Although most people go 70-75, I must let people know that somethimes the cops inthis town will take advantage of the 55mph speed limit and nail people for the pleasure of revenue…
