Kingsland, Georgia Speed Traps
Just north of Exit 7 (Harrietts Bluff ) to Exit 3 ( Hwy 40)
Cops lay in wait along different areas of this 4 mile stretch. They may be in plain sight in the center median, they may be hidden in the treed area near Exit 3 or they hide on the Overpass at Exit 7 shooting their speed guns off the bridge into oncoming traffic and then radio ahead to patrol cars who slyly lie in wait on the entrance ramps to I-95.
They will allow you to go close to 80 mph but once you hit 80 or go over they will stop you in a heartbeat. These cops WILL give you a ticket and there’s a 99% chance they WILL illegally search your car. BE PREPARED. Between the Camden County Sheriffs Office, the Kingsland Police and the GA State Patrol they have to be making a killing in fine revenues. Our cops drive brand new cars at least every two years. Does YOUR local police station own a DODGE VIPER ??
There are marked patrol cars, unmarked cars and big black SUVs …. watch out for all of them.
mile marker 9 souhtbound I-95
At about mile marker 11, the I-95 takes a wide curve to the left. Can’t see very far down the road. as the road straightens out, ther is a police turn around area in the median. Local and state troopers set up radar there very often and concentrate on the south bound traffic coming off the curve. Speed limit is 70..they’ll give you 75 most days. at 80, they hike your fine up almost double. Best to slow down a mile marker 12 and wait to see if they are watching..
Interstate 95 between Kingsland and Woodbine
I’ve lived in Southeast Coastal Georgia for several years. Both the sheriff department and state police have daily speed traps set up in the woods between the North and South traveling lanes usually between Exit 3 in Kingsland and the Woodbine Exit. Some days the Kingsland city police set up radar just off the bridge from Florida near Georgia Exit 1 checking the speed of those traveling North out of Florida into Georgia.
Be on notice: The police in Camden County on Georgia’s rural coast will arrest people over the least infraction. The county is covered up with police. A fender-bender will quickly draw 2, 3 or 4 patrol cars in the Kingsland-St.Marys area. Do not go even 5 miles per hour over the speed limit while in Camden County. Keep an eye on the rear view mirrors for cops looking to make arrests to bring revenue in to pay their wages.
All over the county. Anywhere on I-95 and in towns.
I recieved a ticket for $417.00 for speeding in a school zone where the speed limit went from 55 to 35 and school zone as well as school were not immediately visible. They use radar and you will go to court for naught. I did have mine reduced to $281.00. The court room was full! Tourist traveling on I-95 even came to court to lower their tickets…..this is a racket and you will not get out of it…..Camden county is definitely subsidizing low tax coffers with speeding ticket money. BEWARE.
State Route 40 near Groove Boulevard
Since the hiring of a new, honest police chief, I think some of the speed trapping has slowed down, however, I was charged with going 60 mph in a 30 mph zone which was impossible because I never went 60, but maybe 40 mph. The police car never faced me and could not later show me on tape. The cop showed me on his radar that I was going 60, then he wanted to show me how he could calibrate his radar, and coincidentally, his radar calibrated at 60 too! Go figure. When I paid my ticket at city hall another guy was paying his. I asked him how fast he was going and he say 60 mph. Go figure. I was local. A friend from out of town was charged with going 84 mph in a short distance from when he left a gas station. He had a witness behind him that knew how fast he was going. They almost put him in jail because he reacted to the ridiculous charge. There is no leadership in the council and mayor to stop this corruption. Most of there speed trapping is done between 1-95 and downtown Kingsland. The Sheriff’s department traps on I-95 at the Kingsland exit.
