On US19 jus as you enter Pelham City limits

Pelham, GeorgiaMay 05, 20160 Comments

Officer sits in patrol car hidden from view just as you enter city limits….speed limit on US19 is 65 mph but rapidly drops to 55 mph then down to 45 mph. When you see the posted speed limit drop and begin to reduce your speed you are already in range of the officers radar gun and unless you brake hard you will be clocked exceeding the speed limit….the officer said he clocked me at 61 in a 45 mph zone…..the semi in front of me was traveling at the same speed as was I…..what upsets me is that he wouldn’t even look at my auto insurance card or my registration….I’m 68 and this is my second ticket….the first one was when I was in my twenties. I want to add that US19 virtually bypasses Pelham’s residential and business districts …..it passes on the outskirts of the city…..the city appears to have annexted that portion of US19 in order to generate income from the traffic citations that they write.

When I told The Judge that I-19 in Pelham, Georgia was listed as a ‘Speed Trap’ He asked me if I believed all that I read on the Internet. Well after fighting a speeding ticket in His court I can say ‘Yes’ to that posting. I sat in the Courtroom for over 5 hours and during that time everyone was found ‘Guilty’. Then it was my turn, I produced evidence in the form of maps, photos, and even showed a mistake on the ticket I received – all to no avail. The only good thing is the fine was the same as it would have been had I just mailed in the money with the ticket – I believe you should always ‘state your case’. My time in Traffic Court was well spent when you consider I saw firsthand how ‘Small Town Justice’ worked. I learned another valuable lesson – Pelham is a town that I for one will never stop in and in fact I plan to do my best to give it a wide berth and tell everyone I know to do the same – as far as I am concerned I have given Pelham all the money they will ever receive from me – I hope the business owners can live with how people in the neighboring towns are being fleeced out of their money.

They love to pull over non-local traffic. Stopped me for doing 61 in a 55 MPH zone when I was in-line behind and in front of other traffic (locals apparently) doing the same speed. When questioned, the officer said "well it was just you I checked". Good old boy revenue generation for the city. Last time they will ever see me on the way to the beach…no more gas, food, etc purchased there by me or my sphere of influence. Will go way out of the way if necessary to avoid that trap. Usless ticket…it is all about the money, unfortunately. Take your business elsewhere!!!!!!
