Savannah, Georgia Speed Traps
52nd Street
Officers sit on the side streets along 52nd Street between Bee Road and Montgomery Street. Mostly during daylight hours. Morning, Lunch, Rush Hour. Enforcement comes in waves, very concentrated for a few days every month.
I-95 @ Exit 104
I have now seen the Chatham County Sheriff’s Department running this trap 2 times in the past month.A marked SUV sits on the median just south of exit 104 (Savannah Airport Exit) which is right at the Savannah – Pooler City Line. Chatham County has a Police Department which usually does all of the traffic enforcement but perhaps they are now using the Sheriff’s Department to increase revenue.
I-16 Northbound near mile marker 163
Two GSP troopers sit atop a blind overpass scanning northbound and southbound traffic. The Interstate is posted at 55, ostensibly because it is an urban area, but is decidedly rural and changes to 65 mph within two miles.
Bay Street on both sides of the viaduct under the Talmadge bridge
Savannah police sit on both sides of the viaduct, getting people as they come down. Speed limit is 40 but is hard to maintain.
Diamond Causeway (by the Moon River bridge)
Late at night, cops sit with their lights off by the Moon River bridge. They are partially hiden by the bridge railing and the warning stakes in the road. Speed limit is 50mph – should be 55mph. It is an open road through the marsh, and it is easy to exceed the speed limit.
