Saint Paul, Minnesota Speed Traps
Wabasha Street near Wabasha Bridge
As you cross the Wabasha bridge going southbound you are going downhill. It is very easy to build speed above the posted 35mph. The police sit in the parking lot just north of Plato Street. This trap ususally is set up on nice days during the last few days of the month during afternoon rush-hour traffic.
Shepard Road near Between Randolph and Otto
On Eastbound Shepard Road between Otto and Randolph there is a curve down a hill and at the bottom of the curve is a cut in the barrier allowing access to the bike path by the river. I’ve seen several times when police will park on the bike path with radar and pull people over. It’s tough to see them before they can see you and it’s a completely unexpected place for them to be because it is limited access.
On Westbound Shepard Road they will often sit closer to Otto on the same section of road just after the barrier ends at the top of the small curve and hill on the right side of the road. It’s tough to see them before they can see you, though if you’re in the left lane they have a tough time getting you before you can slow down.
Fairview Avenue near Interstate 94
The speed limit on Fairview is 30mph, but there is a somewhat steep hill as Fairview goes underneath I-94, making it difficult to maintain speed. Cops have a tendency to sit at the bottom of the hill and pull over those who don’t ride their brake down the hill, inadvertently speeding up to 35-40mph.
US Highway 61 near Lower Afton Road
Both Patrol and St. Paul traffic HIGHLY patrol this area. There are 2 main places they sit – St. Paul traffic squads like the little side road just North of the old Carver intersection. Once you pass where carver used to intersect (When going Northbound) there is a little road on the right side they sit at. State patrol likes to sit in the median bushes between Lower Afton and Warner in the valley. Speed limit is 55, but average traffic is 65. People get pulled over at 63 and up.
Interstate 94 near White Bear Avenue
I94 Eeastbound, just West of White Bear Ave. Watch for unmarked State Trooper behind sign posts. Limit is 55 mph, don’t go 70.
