US Highway 71 North near Grandview triangle

Kansas City, MissouriMay 27, 20050 Comments

Lately it’s been a solo KCMO car. He got me just South of the 435N exit, but got somebody else this morning just North of the triangle on 71. Orange barrels and no MoDot evidently still means construction. He’s been there before daylight quite regularly now.

Parvin Road near Prather Road

Parvin Road between Antioch and Prather (Route 1) roads

KCMO cops sit in the church parking lot on a hill overlooking the road. If you see them, it is likely too late

Ward Parkway near 65th Street

Kansas City, MissouriMay 14, 20050 Comments

A cop on a bike hides behind 2 massive bushes, shooting radar at the people that come around the Meyer circle in the morning around 7:30 and after school, about 4:00 or so.

Ward Parkway near StateLine Road

As you are heading North on Ward Parkway, approacing Pembroke Hill Highschool, the road begins to curve to the right (east) and down a hill, after that is a long straight away the runs parallel to the plaza. The cops, usually evening to afternoon, will sit on the left hand side of the road, right past the traffic light and the bridge. They will usually step into traffic and stop you, they are hard to see, if you see them and know you were speeding, take a left onto the bridge.

63rd Trafficway Street near Lewis Road

Kansas City, MissouriMay 11, 20050 Comments

As you come eastbound on 63rd Street Trafficway, there is
a traffic light at Manchester Terrace (there are some office
buildings and a Pepsi bottling plant on the north side of
63rd here) and then a bridge over the Blue River and the
Union Pacific railroad tracks. Just before the bridge
starts, there is a 35 MPH speed limit sign; traffic
typically travels at 50 MPH through here. The KCMO
police stand in the median of 63rd Street at the bottom
of the hill, east of the bridge, firing handheld radar
uphill at cars coming over the bridge and down the hill.
There is no police car or motorcycle visible from 63rd
(these are parked a little south of 63rd, off of Lewis);
just the officer(s) standing in the median. Once you have
been selected for an extra tax, the officer(s) step into
the middle of the 63rd Street eastbound lanes and flag
you to turn right on Lewis, where they tax you. I was
cited for 48 in a 35 at 5 PM on a weekday. There were
two motorcycle officers working this speed trap; another
motorist was cited at the same time I was, and after
he and I were freed, two more motorists were quickly
pulled over. I passed back through the area about 30
minutes later (about 5:30 PM) and the trap was still
active. This was on a visit to KC so I am not sure how
often this trap is active, but it seemed like the
officers were fairly used to running it. This location
is fairly well-traveled; it is a popular access to I-435
and Raytown from south-central KC.
