Searchlight, Nevada Speed Traps
State Highway 95 South near State Highway 95 South
As you are coming into this dustbowl town on S.R.95 from either direction (North or South)the posted speed limit drops dramatically from 65 to 45 to 25 and the road narrows right at the top of a little hill , where guess who?, is waiting to pop you with a ticket for excessive speed ,if you are not at 25 M.P.H.
State Highway 95 near Center of Town
The Police are parked in various spots on rte 95 (it is a two mile stretch) Sometimes they have a dummy (stuffed type)in the car. If it is a real cop they will stop you, they have zero tolerance. The speed drops from 75 to 45 then to 35 in a very short distance.
US Highway 95
About 1/2 mile before arriving and after leaving Searchlight, the highway has a passing lane just as the speed limits quickly drop from 65 to 45 to 35 to 25 (within about 1 block of each other)- very unrealistic and a real shock to people unfamiliar with the area…
US 95
Searchlight is the classic example of a speedtrap town. Speed limit in town is 25MPH with zero tolerance for anything over that. You really have to force yourself to drop to that unrealistic speed after driving for an hour in the open desert, but the revenue enhancement patrol is waiting for you there! Just put up with it, US 95 is only inside of Searchlight for less than a mile.
US 95 North/ South
For a 1 mile stretch, US 95 drops from 60MPH to 25MPH. It’s a business district, you’d think the speed limit is 35MPH. At any time, many cops are waiting to nab you at the sign. They are VERY strict about this speed. I got nailed for doing 30MPH in a 25MPH! The MINIMUM traffic fine you can get [what I got] is a whopping $98! They are deffinately filling the city coffers with money from this trap!
