Franklin, North Carolina Speed Traps

RT 23 has become the gamblers’ route from Atlanta to the casinos at the Cherokee Reservation. The state of No. Car. receives no revenue from the gambling, only the associated headaches. Reduced speed limits along the way and increased enforcement are local governments only recourse to discourage this unwanted traffic. Unfortunately, it also discourages other travellers from using this otherwise very scenic and expeditious route from southwest VA and WV to the Atlanta area.

On the south side of Cowee Mountain (going downhill towards Franklin), there is almost always a State Trooper. Speed limit is 55 mph but the grade of the mountain will cause faster speeds. The road is staight and clear. Troopers sit at bottom of mountain just before Sanders town road. They will write a ticket….no excuses.
