New Rome, Ohio Speed Traps
The speed trap that existed in New Rome, OH has now been declared illegal and no longer exists. The Village of New Rome no longer has it’s own police force. The road is now patroled by the State Highway Patrol and Franklin County Sheriff. This took place several years.
this is how this small community gets most their money.you probably read about them in the paper lately.they are actually trying to get rid of new rome.i personally hope they do.
This occurred several years ago. Was stopped around 2:30 am for 40 mph in posted 35 zone. Was not cited. At the time I was in uniform (Columbus P.D.) and going home from a job. Will admit that I was surprised I was stopped for 5 mph over the limit at that hour. That would not happen in a large city. Years after that I was pulled over for 28 mph in a posted 25 mph zone on a different street. When the uniform officer approached me I asked why he stopped me. Said I was doing 28 in a posted 25 zone. I said you have to be kidding. About that time he looked inside my car and heard a police call. I was on duty driving an unmarked police car. I was a little upset and proceeded to tell him how "chicken" it is to stop violators 2-5 mph over the limit. I won’t tell you what Columbus’ normal over-the-speed-limit range is, but believe me it is well over 5 mph.
