When driving on McElroy between Perkins and Main, in the old Phillips 66 (now a church) on the south side of the road, there are always mutiple cops. Usually they are sitting back were the gas pumps use to be.

Highway 51/Sangre Rd (crossing the bridge into town)

Stillwater, OklahomaAug 26, 20030 Comments

Watch out when coming over the bridge on highway 51 into Stillwater from the West. When heading East into town, the speed drops from 65-55 near the light for N Country Club Rd, then drops from 55-45 by time you hit the light at Sangre Rd directly West of the bridge. It’s easy to come flying through these lights when no traffics around and never slow down. Problem is there’s a small concrete shoulder pad on the East side of 51 where the bridge’s retainging wall ends. You can’t even see the cop sitting there until you pass him. My brother got caught there doing 62(17 over) at 11:15 pm when no traffic was on the road. Its a perfect speed trap because you can hit both lights green and never be forced to slow down even when the speed limit drops from 64-45, and with the cop hiding behind the retaining wall you’ll never see him. Be especially careful at night when there’s no traffic and you can be singled out easy. The retaining wall on the bridge will cover your headlights from shining on the cop car. He’ll see you but you won’t EVER see him till its too late. I’ve seen one there multiple times and didn’t get caught because my brother got busted first and I’m more careful now. Just pay attention and make sure you’re down to 45 when you hit the bridge.

Stillwater is not too bad about traps, but here are a few that I see around the campus. DO NOT speed without a detector on any part of McElroy. One end of this is campus, and the other is guarded with smokeys in the outlet shopping center lots. Also, pretty much any main road coming into town , watch the first intersection. They sit at these when writing up reports and whatnot, but my detcetor blows up alot. Finally, with the university and all, there are many crosswalks with K bank signals coming out. Univeristy police hide in these areas under the mask of these "false warnings" that we all get used to.
