North Atherton Street near Mitchell Avenue
Run as a multiple car trap on certain ‘project’ evenings, sometimes laser, more often vascar. Cars back into Mitchell ave. which is .25 mile north of Hillcrest ave. traffic light. It is 1/2 way down a steep hill where driver’s speeds often increase. Traffic stop done quickly, as jurisdiction ends .25 miles north of the trap and drivers enter Ferguson Township, who’s police often coordinate a 2nd trap near Balford’s dry cleaning. Mitchell Ave. trap used rarely, but it’s a big operation when in use,(up to 6 chase cars) often on busy weekends.
West College Avenue near Sparks Street
Most often used as a pre-planned, multi-car trap; State College Borough police; Marked and unmarked cars; Vascar from side-street. Stops often made in ‘Houtz’ parking lot; This trap is Only run in Westbound direction- street (College Ave) is 1 way here, with 25 mph restriction. Often a catipillar trap is used (a 2nd trap .5 miles beyond the 1st). In Past, Laser and ESP cables have been used also.
Interstate 99 near Waddle Road
Local Vascar enforcement by Patton Twp. Police, often using multiple cars between Toftrees exit and Valley Vista Exit, I-99; Cars hide behind brush, always at top of on-ramp to interstate. Occasional Catipillar operation (2 traps in succession); High intensity certain weekends when funding supplied by state; High on ‘football weekends’.
