Pawtucket, Rhode Island Speed Traps
Corner of Mineral Spring and Lonsdale near Samuel Slater School
During the school year the school zones in Pawtucket are active until 6PM. I know of no other city in RI with this limit. Driving the posted (during non-school zone hours) speed limit will cause the automated speed trap cameras to activate granting you a $50 ticket. There’s only a small school zone light on the opposite end of the Traffic light on Lonsdale and Mineral Spring, barely visible from the traffic light, and invisible if you decide to stop for gas and the nearby Speedway. None of the speed trap cameras are illuminated or otherwise informing drivers they’re in an active school zone, making non-Pawtucket residents very susceptible to speeding tickets.
Northbound Newport Ave at Burns Elementary school automated
Automated speed trap camera set to 20 MPH maximum speed. You will be surprised to receive a citation in the mail for travelling along with traffic at the the speed of the traffic. I don’t know if some get by because there are so many cars travelling together, but I got my delightful citation
Benny’s Plaza Central Ave
Pawtucket, RI & Seekonk, MA police lurk in this parking lot going after speeders.
Corner of Nottingham Way and East Ave.
Speed limit 25. At this writing, don’t recall where it is posted.Nottigham will be on your right as you travel down East Ave. towards Blackstone BLVD. After you round the corner, uphill, near Shea High, the road continues to incline. It then slowly goes down hill. Your view to the right side of the road is obscured due the the downward elevation change. There is a green mail pick up box on the corner of Nottigham. The lurker parks their car back down Nottigham so it cannot been seen. They stand behind the mail box and place their radar gun above the mail box. I find it best to drive exactly 25 and give them a friendly wave. One clueless, fine gentleman even waved back. Obviously thought he must have known me.
George Bennett Hwy. (aka Industrial Hwy.) at Central Ave.
The sneaky policeman hides his car, the he gets out and stands behind the fence all on private property, and nails everyone over 30 in a 25 zone. It is pathetic to even imagine any safety factor at this location as there is no homes along the roadway, all commercial businesses, no sidewalks, no people walking along the road, There are just railroad tracks. All to get their overtime money as quickly as possible. Like I said, There is no safety factor at this location, just another rip-off to the taxpayer and the good motoring public!
