in/out of town

I recently received a ticket in this dump of a town. I will never spend a penny there. I did not see the abrupt speed change I was pulled over with my baby sleeping in the back. The officer had zero interest/sympathy for my baby crying, my polite attitude or the fact that he clocked me less than .2 of a mile from the speed change. The assisting officer stood to the right of our vehicle throughout the process with his hand positioned over his revolver. I guess my wife and baby in the back were a little concerning to him.

Think twice about stopping in Calvert. I would recommend skipping the whole county. Pull over in Riesel or Bryan. Maybe the businesses will finally object to this government regulated theft.

I saw the sign change from 70 mph to 55 slowed down, it further changed to 50 mph and to 40 mph, as I am driving, I am stopped by the officer. He asked me if I knew what was the posted speed limit which I did and explained him all the posted speed limits. He said I was doing 73 on a 55 mph zone, which I believe is brutal and a painful allegation. I am part of a boy scout troop and try to be a role model. I was given a ticket which I thought was unlawful. I came home and did a google search for Calvert and speed traps no wonder I was shocked to see everything posted by our citizens. I call it a source of making money for the city and a form of extortion by the city to pay bills. When will someone take legal actions against these protectors of law when they are cheating the general public on regular basis?

North Hwy 6

I live North of Calvert and have never been stopped, but see someone stopped almost every time I go home. Officer sits in medium esp at night. Even on Halloween when there were kids running all over town trick and treating, the police car was out giving tickets on the far edge of town rather than trying to make the residential areas safe for the kids. It looks like they could have taken a one night break from the money raising to protect the kids. In Texas there is a limit on the percentage of funds of a city budget that can come from ticket. As many as they give out and as small as the town is , I am sure they are breaking state law.

As someone that grew up in this town it allways amazes me at the shadieness of the law inforcement there, I have since moved away but go through there often and have learned (the hard way I might add) that you slow down before you even get to the 55 mph sign or you will get stoped. Trust me when I say you don’t want to get caught up in there good ole boy legal system.

Main Street, Highway 6, Calvert, Texas

I was fully aware of the unscrupulous tactics and shitty reputation the “law enforcement” officers of Calvert (population of about 1,600 in the middle of nowhere) have for a long time. Highway 6 is heavily traveled by outsiders going from Fort Worth/Waco/College Station/Houston. Although I thought I was careful, I got a ticket anyway. It was not on the outskirts of the two-bit town but on Main Street. Coming in from the north, I had slowed down before each speed limit marker sign and as I approached the one right in town that said “35 mph”, I specifically looked at my speedometer on which the needle sat square on 40 and was gradually declining. A block or two later, I passed a police car cruising the opposite direction and I continued on for a few more blocks until I was nearly out of town. I watched him in my rear view mirror and he did a u-turn in the middle of Main Street and started coming in my direction. I figured there was no way I had done something wrong and wondered why he would have taken so long to turn around if I did. But he kept coming and about the time I was approaching the 55 mph sign on south side of town, he pulled me over. I was quite confused – surely he wasn’t going to write me up for 5 mph, as petty as they are in that town. He asked for my license and insurance without saying why I was pulled over, so I asked him what I had done. He said I was going forty eight miles an hour in a 35 mph zone. I nearly blasted through the roof of my car I was so pissed and he knew it. I told him I specifically looked at my speedometer and what it read. Of course, that mattered not. There is no way his radar and my speedometer were 8 mph out of sync. The short, donut-stuffed “law enforcement officer” gave me the ticket and I left. I highly question the honesty and ethics of that officer. It was over a year ago and I’m still pissed at what appears to be their total zealousness for giving tickets to non-locals and raising revenue to pay their own salaries. They are providing no public service by doing what they do. Not only is this a speed trap, I question the ethics and professionalism of the “police force” of Calvert, Texas. Barney Fife would not be proud.
