Chesapeake, Virginia Speed Traps

Emporia city police sit on either side of I-95 ticketing motorists approaching or exiting the interstate. (When I attended traffic school in Virginia Beach for this violation, over one third of the entire class had been ticketed in Emporia, a town approx 90 minutes away!)

Ok, on SEVERAL countless occasions coming home late at night, I have seen a marked cruiser sitting under the Hanbury road overpass (exit 10) next to the support structure in the median on the southbound side with the cruiser facing northbound. The one flaw is that you can see their reflectors from your headlights, but if you’re not looking for them then you won’t see them. Laser and radar only work up to 1000′ and that means that as long as you slow down before you get to the part where the first exit starts for Hanbury road, you should be alright.

The trap is near the hill next to Greenbrier country club. If you are coming from Kempsville, the speed limit drops from 45 to 35 just before the hill and the police sit on the other side of the hill. If you are coming from Greenbrier, the speed limit jumps to 45 just after the hill and they sometimes pull people as they come over because the speed limit hasn’t officially jumped to 45 yet.

The officer sits in the middle of the median facing you as you are coming down the bridge toward old atlantic ave. you can’t see him coming around the curve, so if your already speeding by the time you see him you’ve been clocked. Also going in the opposite direction (headed toward Norfolk) the cop sits off to the right at the bottom of the bridge under a big tree clocking you as you come down the bridge. If its night time you can’t see him until its too late, because its so dark where he sits. The speed limt is 35 so take it easy coming down the bridge.

As you come off of Greenbeier Parkway onto Sam’s Circle. There is a cop that sits in the parking alot of Nextel that clock people coming around the turn. The speed limit is 25 but becareful and don’t go over the speed limit. I seen this cop pull over about 20 people from 7 in the morning to 9.
