Newport News, Virginia Speed Traps
I-64 E/W Near Jefferson Ave Exits
Troopers like to sit in the break of the concrete barrier on I-64 near the Jefferson Ave exits and clock (both directions). They’re not there everyday I don’t think, but still use it on a semi regular basis.
Harpersville Rd. between Warwick Ave. and Jefferson Ave.
The speed limit drops from 45 to 25 as Harpersville crosses Jefferson. (Harpersville turns into Hampton Roads Center Parkway a bit further north.) Since this leads to Warwick High School and many parents are late getting their kids to school in the morning it is a very popular spot for cops to sit.
Maxwell Lane
Speed limit is 25 MPH all along Maxwell Lane. Far too many drivers seem to believe they are permitted 35-45 MPH along this stretch of road due to its width, I suppose. The police will sit in the Hampton Roads Church driveway or where Lisa Drive intersects with Maxwell.
Milepost 245 of I-64
In median, targeting westbound traffic evenings in are heavily traveled by out-of-state drivers (tourists and military)
Milepost 260 of I-64
In median approaching urban area but where landscape still looks very rural, reduction of speed limit combined with lots of tree cover and heavy traffic make for easy pickings on this stretch, especially at night
