Martinsburg, West Virginia Speed Traps
South Ridge Road near State Route 9 West
Officers sit on a side road at the bottom of two hills. Speed limit is posted 35, but old-timers remember when it was 55; it is a rural road, even though several housing developments have been added, but not too many additions with road frontage since limit decreased.
Queen and King Street near Martinsburg Mall
On both King and Queen Streets, the cops sit on sidestreets, parked and firing up/down the road. 25mph speed limit is strictly enforced. My father got a ticket for 28 in the 25. If you want to avoid tickets, just keep it at 25mph. They often bust people for other things too, like tint, music volume, etc.
Tavern Road
This is a section of road that goes from a 35 mph zone down to a 25 mph zone. It is a relatively straight stretch of roadway and there is no need for the speed limit to be reduced except only to make money for the city coffers. Cop car usually sits in a business parking lot along the side of the roadway and nabs you just as you crest the hill.
Rt 9 & 45 at south end of City limits aka S. Queen Street
There are two regular locations for these trappers. The first is just over the hill on the right in a patchy grass area, before the High School, just past the 25mph sign heading into the city on Rt 9 & 45. The second is on the opposite side of the street usually parked among other cars. I have never received a ticket here but cannot count the times that I have seen them issued in front of the businesses on the southern end of town. And whoa to anyone leaving these businesses while the local constables test their high speed driving skills. If citizens placed radar at this end of town, in the 25 mph Rt 45 & 9 (S.Queen) zone for use on police vehicles, I am sure that 70 mph speed limit on the interstate would be broken here too.
