Madison, Wisconsin Speed Traps
I-94
There are two spots that you will see used alot the no u-turn area just by the bridge by the on and off ramps to lake mills, and then a hard to see no u-turn spot right after the wisconsin dells on ramp, usually they will not pull you over unless you do very stupid things, or you speed at to high of rate i.e. over 80mph, if alot of people are speeding and are in a tight group they usually wont bother you.
12-18 Beltline
On the west beltline, between Gammon Road and Mineral Point is a bridge over High Point road. Dane county sheriffs often send a lone man to stand on the bridge with a radar gun. Behind the curve in the bridge, they usually have at least three other cars to pull people over as the officer on the bridge reads the speeds. This usually happens as traffic is west/north bound. I have also seen it on east/south bound part of the curve. I used to have an office window where I could watch them work.
Hwy 14 between Oregon and Madison
The one time I was witness to it I was actually a passenger in the car. We were travelling from Oregon into Madison approaching the Lacy Rd. overpass. There is a slight bend and moderate downhill as you near the bridge. There was a Red and Grey older model SUV on the overpass clocking vehicles going our direction. The speed limit is 65mph as it is a limited access divided highway but most traffic generally travels at 70-80 mph. The driver was pulled over and ticketed by a squad waiting after the overpass. There were at least 4 squad cars enforcing because 3 others were pulled over as we were being issued the ticket.
Whitney Way (between University Ave and Mineral Point)
This is the stretch between University Ave and Mineral Point Rd. I travel this path regularly and constantly see people pulled over. It’s a stretch that you can easily go 15 miles past the speed limit.
East Wahsington Ave
The City of Madison has begun a program to "crack down" on teens cruising the east side of Madison, most notibly East Washington Ave. between the Square and East Town Mall. Most tickets are being written for "equipment violations", serious things like white light bulbs in side marker lights, and non-stock mufflers. They are writing many tickets for non standard headlights. If you have any type of headlight other than what came originally on the vehicle, they will write a ticket and with points. The Traffic Enforcement Safety Team has several unmarked Crown Victorias in service throughout the city, but they have been concentrating on the East Washington Ave. corridor since spring on Friday and Saturday nights. They have radar (K and Ka band) and LIDAR. They are not afraid to pursue at high speed in risky situations to catch violators of minor infractions. The explanation for the increased enforcement is that there have been many complaints of noise in the area. They are not giving warnings. Watch out!
