Long Beach, California Speed Traps
2nd Street near Belmont Shore
2nd Street between PCH and Redondo Ave, night or day. End of the month, last 5 days, they are out in force actually all over Long Beach even giving tickets to bike riders to get their quotas met.
Donald Douglas Drive near Long Beach Airport PassangerTerminal
Upon turning on Donald Douglas Blvd to head to the airport, an airport police officer is usually hiding ~100 feet past Chevron waiting to give a ticket. Watch out for the speed signs, as the speed limit abruptly changes. Sometimes, depending on the mood he’s in, he may just follow you, wait till you park, flip on his lights, and "inform" you about the speed limit and then leave. I’ve been in the car with a few people who’s had this happen. On the plus side, no one I’ve been with have gotten a ticket when they were "informed" of the speed, and the officer seems very pleasant.
Clark Street near Conant near Veteran’s Stadium
North & South bound Clark st. between Wardlow and Carson. Clark is a wide road with golf course on west side with residential on east side. The flow (or propensity) is to exceed the posted limit (40 MPH) especially if the traffic is light and it is easy to be cruising along at 50+ on this street anywhere between Carson and the 405 (San Diego)freeway. While the speed limit is seemingly unrealistic you can count on enforcement nonetheless. Got caught at 50+ in early morning hours of darkness with no traffic (about 4:30 AM on a weekend!) Radar cop was near fire station and along with advantage of darkness may have been partially hidden behind a hedge as well.
Cherry Avenue near Carson Street
Be VERY careful when driving on Cherry ave between San Antonio and Carson Streets. This is a three lane part of Cherry Ave, and it feels like you should go about 50-55, but the limit is only 40, and the motorcycle cops are routinely hiding on the side streets near the park on the west side of the street. I see people pulled over ALL THE TIME here. A lot of people know about this area, but some don’t.
Willow Street near State Highway 605
Willow Street between the 605 Freeway to Clark Ave is enforced by Motorcycle Officers and/or Patrol cars who randomly sit near the San Gabriel River bed or near Woodruff Avenue. They also strictly enforce the pedestrian crossings along the street too. The speed limit through the area is 40 MPH and is a mix of residential, some commercial and public park lands. It has been (unofficially) dubbed: "Blood Alley" by local newspapers!
