Long Beach, California Speed Traps
Wardlow Road near Magnolia Avenue
When travelling either East or West through Wardlow Road, be aware of a motorcycle cop hiding among the bushes on the side streets North or South of the road. Frequent accidents happen on the Magnolia intersection.
Del Amo Boulevard
At the intersection of Del Amo Boulevard and Long Beach Boulevard, motorcycle officers hide in restaurant or gas station driveways and wait for drivers. The infraction is usually referred to as "failure to yield" although there is no need to yield, the intersecton is rife with traffic lights. The bike will run without headlights and the siren will turn on suddenly behind the driver with sirens going, scaring the driver half to death.
Stearns Street near Bellflower Boulevard
On Stearns Street between Bellflower Blvd and Palo Verde Avenue, moto officers hid on both sides of the street at Fanwood. They pull back enough away from Stearns to be hidden and wait for the speeding car and nail them. It happens approximately 4-5 nights a week.
Clark Avenue near Carson Street
Radar officer sits in the alley just North of Carson on the East side of the Street. I welcome the speed trap many college kids cross at the Clark and Carson intersection. Motorists blow through the intersection with all disregard for other motorists or pedistrians. Traveling North bound on Clark once you cross Carson speed limit is reduced to 35mph from 40mph. Also, North bound Clark at the Carson Steet intersection requires the far right two lanes to make a right turn onto Carson. Many motorists try to beat the long line of cars traveling North bound at the Carson intersection and they make an illegal merge back into the North Bound Clark traffic going through the intersection at a high rate of speed. Many accidents and tickets given at this Carson & Clark intersection. Slow down and beware!
Palo Verde Avenue near Marita Street
On Palo Verde between 405 Fwy & Atherton @ Marita St. I "hurried" to make the left hand turn light onto S/B Palo Verde from the 405 Fwy. The posted speed is 35 mph. As I turned the corner, my speed was up, however, I began to slow down as I merged into the flow of traffic. A motor officer with radar was sitting off to the left on Marita Street. Difficult to see him until it was too late. I was shocked that a big street like Palo Verde is only 35 mph!
